Summer Bike Camp Success

What’s better than riding a bike on a nice summer afternoon? That’s exactly what over 20 youth were able to do as they participated in Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition’s first Summer Bike Camp during the week of July 30. The four-day camp took place at the Alma Youth Center in San José where kids ages 9-16 learned about bicycle safety and environmental stewardship.

Through the Summer Bike Camp, participants gained knowledge and confidence as they learned essential bike riding skills through instruction, fun games, bicycle rodeos, maintenance workshops, and rides. Participants also learned about the many health and environmental benefits bicycling has to offer through experiments and field trips. Some of the highlights of the camp included a couple of rides through the Guadalupe River Trail, including an 8-mile ride to downtown where participants had the chance to play at the Arena Green Park.

We would like to thank the Michael Lee Environmental Foundation, Specialized, and Calmar Bicycles for making this camp possible, and for allowing us to bring joy to the youth through bicycling.
