Events and Fundraising Intern


Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC), a 501(c)(3) non­profit promoting the bicycle for everyday use in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, seeks qualified individuals to apply for the position of Membership Intern. The Events and Fundraising Intern will be responsible for maintaining and developing membership accrual and renewal processes. This position will revolve around print mailing, electronic mailing, and phone banking in addition to other duties. The Events and Fundraising Intern will work independently on assigned projects and meet established deadlines in addition to working collaboratively with other members of staff, volunteers and individuals of the communications team to fulfill developmental plans and strategies.

Primary Responsibilities Depending on Interest and Aptitude:

  • Develop and implement strategies to increase membership growth (both recruitment and retention)
  • Work to increase SVBC brand recognition and presence in peninsula and south bay communities through a variety of outreach events and other channels
  • Work to increase member involvement through volunteer activities and various forms of outreach
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Programs Manager to manage SVBC relationships with bike shops and grow the number of shop partners
  • Aid in the develop and implementation of strategies to increase individual donor contributions and commitment to SVBC
  • Use SVBC communication tools to engage current and potential members
  • Work with the Assistant Programs Manager to develop, implement, and supervise SVBC social rides
  • Provide support to the Event Coordinator and the Assistant Programs Manager to execute annual events (Bike to Work Day, Annual Dinner, etc.) in efforts to grow membership

  • Ability to prioritize activities based on defined work plan, while tracking multiple focus areas simultaneously
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to keep transparent records that others can access and understand
  • Excellent follow­ through
  • Upbeat and engaging personality, patience even in challenging circumstances


  • Interest in promoting active transportation and enthusiasm for SVBC’s mission
  • Desire to be a team player in a fast­paced and fun non­profit office environment
  • Flexible schedule ­ work may include some evening meetings and occasional weekend commitments
  • Access to reliable transportation, California driver’s license, and automobile insurance: work covers a large geographical area and often multiple commitments in a given day will require significant travel
  • Computer literacy in MS Office

Additional Preferred Qualities:

  • Spanish and Vietnamese language skills
  • Familiarity with or other CRM tools
  • Experience with bulk emailing applications
