Wanted: Central San Mateo County Advocates

Do you live, work, or play in or around the City of San Mateo? Do you want to improve biking in your community and get more people biking? We are looking for you! We want to increase our reach to members and new bicyclists in Central San Mateo County and augment our advocacy efforts to the City. Our Policy Manager Emma Shlaes works tirelessly in San Mateo County to advocate for safer, improved bike infrastructure, and our San Mateo County Local Team continues to inform our work. But we wish to do more!In particular, we feel that San Mateo's new bike share system, Bay Bikes, offers a unique opportunity: the system will increase visibility of bicyclists and encourage the city to put in more bike lanes and facilities. There are already over 150 subscribers and we want to make more people aware of the program and its potential benefits as well as create a strong foundation for bike advocacy in San Mateo. Bike share systems can bring in new riders who will demand safe and comfortable bike facilities. We need to capture the energy happening right now in San Mateo to create a better community for all, and are looking for individuals to volunteer and help us make this happen. We will train volunteers to talk to folks on the street, at transit stations, in meetings, and presentations to increase biking. We will also be training leaders for social rides around town.If any of this sounds interesting to you, please contact Emma Shlaes, Policy Manager, emma@bikesiliconvalley.org with the subject line: San Mateo. Please let us know if you want to get involved!
