Climate Ride Info Meet: Sports Basement of Sunnyvale

Hi Everyone! We will be having an information session for our Climate Ride team at Sports Basement of Sunnyvale. Climate Ride is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that organizes life-changing charitable events to raise awareness and support sustainability, active transportation, and environmental causes. Climate Ride produces charitable multi-day rides. Participants make an extraordinary contribution to a cause they care about. By participating, they are helping to provide much-needed financial support, raising awareness, engaging other riders, and helping to build a national network of supporters. The reward for this commitment is the experience of a lifetime through some of America’s most beautiful landscapes. Participants meet and network with leaders in sustainability, renewable energy, and environmental causes while raising awareness of our cause. Please, consider joining the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition Team and learn more at Sports Basement. You will get to hear about about the previous experience on the Climate Ride two years ago from our Membership Coordinator, Gavin Powell, who will be discussing the details of fundraising, training, and the adventure to be expected. See you...

320 glorious miles

A couple of weeks ago I went on my first multi-day supported ride–the Climate Ride–320 miles down the northern California coastline from Fortuna to San Francisco. What an amazing experience! We rode through the giant redwoods and along a beautiful coastline with perfect weather. My first century was tucked into it on the third day, as well–thank goodness for tailwinds and cappuccinos. Team SVBC raised money to support–you guessed it–Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition and the work we are doing to create sustainable transportation choices. It is refreshing that there is finally a cause ride that benefits our work to make environmentally-friendly and health-promoting transportation options a safe, convenient, and realistic choice for people of all ages. Funds raised will go straight to our advocacy work in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. The ride was an absolutely incredible experience, and what a great group of people–all 150 of them are now friends. I would highly encourage any of you who may be interested to consider joining me next May for the Climate Ride on Team SVBC. Check out their website for more info and let me know if you're interested in joining our team. Special thanks go out to Karl and Steve, my fearless and fantastic team members in 2012! We shared in some special moments and I will be forever indebted to them for pulling me through headwinds on the fourth day. That's all I can say, folks–as team captain Karl said: what happens on the Climate Ride, stays on the Climate...

Team SVBC thanks you for supporting California Climate Ride 2012

Wow! What an incredible ride and an inspiring group of people. I couldn’t have asked for anything more, and I did have my fingers crossed for no rain (success!). There were so many people with very different backgrounds, all with a common interest of making the planet a better place to live. It is no surprise then that many of the people who work in green energy, sustainability, and climate change policy are also cyclists. There was a certain feeling of enthusiasm being around a large group of like-minded people. I would especially like to thank our team members, Rose Madden, Gavin Powell, and Elizabeth Sippl, for their fundraising efforts and for joining me in a 320-mile ride to raise awareness about climate change by promoting bicycling as a healthy and green alternative. I would also like to give a special thanks to all our supporters for their contributions in helping us reach our fundraising goals. Thank you for all your generous support! Want to cycle through one of the most beautiful areas of Northern California and be inspired? Support Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition in California Climate Ride 2013, May 19-23,...

Rose Madden, Team SVBC Climate Rider

Rose Madden, Farm Manager at Full Circle Farm in Sunnyvale, is joining Team SVBC for the 2012 Climate Ride California. Rose is an avid cyclist who believes in the goals of both SVBC and Climate Ride. “I promote bike riding as an alternative transportation method, as a way to boycott the gas-powered automobile industry, and a means of promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.” SVBC is fortunate to have supporters like Rose. She understands the value of an organization that works everyday to promote healthy, active transportation: “I value SVBC because of what they do for the community. They fight to make the roads safer and the bike lane system more extensive for bike commuters. They also host great events, help other non-profit organizations, donate bikes to pretty much anyone who needs a bike, and make community events biker-friendly.” And Rose knows what she’s talking about! As someone whose day-to-day life takes her all over the South Bay, it’s important to her that she feels confident on her bike. “Bike riding is a great way to get around in the Bay Area. There are many bike lanes and the streets are pretty wide most of the time. I love how close everything is when bike riding. I live in San Jose, work in Sunnyvale, go to the Mt. View Farmers Market, and visit my boyfriend at work in Palo Alto – all on my bike!” Thank you, Rose, for promoting the bicycle for everyday use, and for helping SVBC grow!
