To celebrate the many non-motorized Across Barrier Connections (ABCs) opened in Santa Clara County over the last few years, the County's Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (aka VTA BPAC) and SVBC are sponsoring the second annual self-guided "Over and Under Tour" on Saturday May 15 as part of the Mattson Technology San José ViaVelo.
You can use the Over and Under Tour route to transport yourself to/from the San José ViaVelo, or you can ride the route starting from and returning to the San José ViaVelo on that day.
The highlighted over and under crossings (ABCs) included as part of this year's tour are listed below. But note that there are many other significant ABCs that you will enjoy as part of this self-guided tour.
- Cupertino: Mary Avenue Bridge over 280
- Mountain View: El Camino undercrossing and Moffett bridge overcrossing of the Stevens Creek Trail
- Sunnyvale: Borregas Bridges over 101 and 237
- San Jose: Guadalupe Trail under 101 and Airport Parkway
- Santa Clara: 101, Central Expressway, and Scott undercrossings of the San Tomas Aquino Trail
- VTA: River Oaks Bridge of the Guadalupe Trail over the River
A suggested route linking the highlighted ABCs that connects with the San José ViaVelo is available in this map and in the attached route sheets. NOTE: there are 2 route sheets, one for the full route and one for a shorter route that combines public transit. Also indicated in the map and route sheet are restrooms and water locations. Public transit options are available for those wishing to combine public transit with their self guided tour.
By visiting at least 3 of the highlighted ABCs, you can enter for a chance to win a $100 Sports Basement gift certificate. All you need to do is take the attached flyer with you on your self guided tour, collect a sticker at each participating ABC you visit (they are highlighted on the map), and then drop off your flyer at the SVBC booth at the San José ViaVelo on the day of the event, Saturday May 15th, during the hours of the event.
The flyer will be available at energizer stations in the County on Bike to Work Day, can be printed from the PDF (OUT 2010 Flyer), or can be picked up at the SVBC booth at the San José ViaVelo on the day of the event during the hours of the event.
Please plan to come out and join this fun and educational tour of these facilities!
