SVBC Membership Advisory Committee

The Membership Advisory Committee generally meets on the evening of the second Tuesday of the month. Voting members of the committee are appointed by the Executive Director or the board for one-year terms. All members are welcome to attend and asked to check the calendar for location details.

The Membership Advisory Committee charter is as follows:

ROLE

The Membership Advisory Committee (the “Membership Committee”) advises the Executive Director (the “ED”), and when requested, the Development Committee of the Board of Directors (the “Development Committee”) in their efforts to increase the number of members and members’ level of engagement in SVBC’s work.

AUTHORITY AND MEMBERSHIP

  1. The Membership Committee is a staff-run committee of the members that also advises the Development Committee on items of relevance. The Executive Director or the board of directors will appoint committee members for one-year terms. The committee will elect a chair from its membership, subject to ratification by the Executive Director.

  2. The Board or ED may fill vacancies on the Committee. The Board or ED may remove a Committee member from the Committee at any time, with or without cause.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Research and develop membership growth and engagement strategies, and advise the Development Committee and SVBC Staff on matters of membership.

  2. Assist in implementing membership growth and engagement strategies.

  3. Draft an annual work plan to guide committee efforts.

  4. Review and make recommendations to the SVBC staff and Development Committee regarding SVBC’s strategic plan and long-term objectives regarding membership.

  5. Work with Executive Director and staff as requested on membership and outreach.

  6. Perform such other duties as the Development Committee or SVBC staff may from time to time assign to the Committee.

OPERATIONS

  1. The Committee will meet at least one time annually or more frequently as it will determine (generally the committee will meet monthly). The Chair of the Committee will preside over the meetings of the Committee. A majority of the members of the Committee will constitute a quorum. Committee approvals will require a vote of a majority of the Committee members present at a meeting at which a quorum is present.

  2. In general, committee meetings will be noticed and will be open to the entire SVBC membership. In general, meetings will be noticed in the weekly bulletin. At its discretion, the committee may hold a closed meeting, if all committee members and the Executive Director are noticed at least one week in advance.

  3. The Executive Director will assign a minimum of one staff member to support committee operations.

  4. The Committee will report its activities to the Executive Director, the Development Committee (via staff), and the membership at large on a regular basis.
