Something completely unprecedented is rolling in to San Jose — Silicon Valley’s first open streets event! On Saturday, May 15th, the Mattson Technology ViaVelo will open up San Fernando Street between Highway 87 and Third St. for the community to enjoy the streets free from traffic. Come out and play, bicycle, jog, picnic, and engage!
Check out all the events and activities on the ViaVelo events page.
The Mattson Technology ViaVelo, presented by the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition and the City of San José, is part of a global movement to open up city streets for the community to use for walking, cycling, and other human-powered fun. All ages are welcome to enjoy the celebration, which will feature casual bike rides, live bands, contests, and fun activities.
This is a community event, and we need the community's support. If you would like to help make the Mattson Technology ViaVelo a smashing success, we would love to have you help out.
Volunteers are needed for:
- Outreach before the event
- Leading rides at the event
- Leading kids bike activities at the event
- Hosting activities at the event
If you would like to volunteer, please contact Carlos at email@example.com.
You can also plug into this event in the three following ways:
1) Host a great activity for the public to enjoy.
Have an activity you’d like to suggest? We’re open to it—this is YOUR event, too. Tell us what you’d like to do by filling out the activity sign up form to get that ball rolling. Stage space is available for performances and presentations.
2) Showcase your organization or business with a booth.
A portion of the street will be left open for walking, skating, and cycling; while another portion of the street will contain planned activities and booths. Get your message out to thousands of area residents in a relaxed and fun environment! Fill out the booth registration form and send it in with payment to reserve your space.
3) Help us spread the word!
We’d like to see information go out about this event as widely as possible. Can you help make this event a reality by distributing information—either through newsletters or websites of organizations you’re involved with, or through any other means? Help us create a buzz about this event by emailing Erin McDaniel with how you can participate (firstname.lastname@example.org).
