Redwood City cyclists - help cycling in your city!
Do you want to help Redwood City become more bike-friendly? Join the new RWC workgroup!
SVBC is forming a working group to work with Redwood City staff to provide input on bicycle-related projects. The workgroup is being formed primarily due to financial difficulties in Redwood City which have delayed institution of their Complete Streets Commission, which would normally provide input to City staff on bicycle and pedestrian issues. Thus, this workgroup will serve until a suitable commission is able to fulfill this function for the City.

Caltrain seeks volunteers for bicycle advisory committee
One of the best ways for cyclists to affect the state of cycling in their localities is by joining the bicycle/pedestrian advisory committee (B/PAC) in the town where they live or work. B/PACs are also utilized by transit authorities and other public agencies. Now Caltrain has announced that it will form its own bicycle advisory committee. This is a great opportunity for SVBC members in both Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties to work with Caltrain to make the system even more accommodating to cyclists.

Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition community equinox bike ride
Meet up in San Carlos for a fun bike ride to celebrate the vernal equinox. This community ride, hosted by the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, will generally travel counter-clockwise around Redwood Shores on flat terrain. Detours will take the group to see the bike lanes on Twin Dolphin and trail connections near the dog park and the Redwood Shores Library.
Along the way, the group will cross over a couple of tricky freeway overpasses at Ralston and Holly Streets. Timid riders will want to proceed with caution, but there will be several, more experienced riders to help out.

Public comments needed for South San Francisco bicycle master plan
The City of South San Francisco’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) held a special meeting on September 14, 2009. The planning consultant working with BPAC and City staff, Alta Planning + Design, presented an overview of the SSF Bicycle Master Plan, which included descriptions of the types of bikeways, existing facilities, proposed facilities, and prioritization criteria. The presentation ended with the audience dividing up into two groups and marking up large maps with their ideas for bicycle projects.
San Mateo Bike Map Corrections
Mike Harding from SVBC's Peninsula Committee wrote to say:
John Langbein, author of the first two versions of the County bike map, and I have volunteered to collect corrections that should be made to the map before any second edition is published. If changes can be made sooner to the digital map version, so much the better. The map is beautiful and useful, but it's not perfect. There are some dirt roads shown that are not bikeable, for instance. The object of this effort is to remove inconsistencies and add missed or new bike routes. Please send your input to me or John, verbally or digitally.
Please send your comments and corrections to smc_bike_map [at] yahoo [dot] com. John will collect them from there.
If you haven't seen the map yet, you can get one free from your local city hall or download it (2 sides) from here:

Thanks in advance for your help.
