Belmont Ride

The Peninsula Committee of the SVBC has been conducting "City Rides" to explore San Mateo County city by city. The group rides aim to highlight the successes of each community in supporting cycling for everyday transportation and recreation, as well as to identify trouble spots in need of innovative solutions. Mark Eliot led San Mateo last August, Bob Cronin led Menlo Park in November and Didrik Hoag led San Carlos on Jan 24th.

The ride will be 12-15 miles at a moderate pace, and we'll stop for lunch afterward on El Camino. The Belmont ride will cover bicycling issues in Belmont. Be prepared for a few hills that are short but steep. Ride happens in all conditions.

BELMONT -- meeting re Alameda de las Pulgas bike lanes

Belmont recently re-stripped a section of Alameda de Las Pulgas from 2 lanes to 1 lane, adding bike lanes for both directions in front of Carlmont HS. Motorists are campaigning to reverse this decision. There's going to be a meeting tomorrow, Friday 2/6/09, at Belmont City Hall at 9:30AM on this issue.

Belmont BAC 12/15/08

This BAC functions as a glorified committee to rubber stamp the TDA-3 requirements when the project lists are ready to submit. There is no council member as required by MTC and no bike plan except for some verbage in the circulation element of the General Plan. The meetings are only called when TDA-3 projects come up.

1- The Ralston 101 Pedestrian Bike Bridge has $2.2M in funding and holds a $5M -$6M gap based on today's lower construction costs. Belmont will submit a project request to the Obama Stimulus Plan. The project is ready to go within 120 days of receiving funding.
