Join 400 amateur cyclists, including CEOs of major Silicon Valley companies and elected officials from the region, as they climb the steep Sierra Road hill in East San Jose for the Silicon Valley Leadership Group's King of the Mountain, scheduled for Tuesday, May 15.
The KOM ride is scheduled to start at 8:15 a.m. on Sierra Road, directly across the street from the Berryessa Community Church located at 3355 Sierra Road. Riders can pick up their bibs and enjoy light refreshments at the church from 7:00-7:45 a.m.
The riders will ascend to the summit between 8:15 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. with all riders finishing the race by 9:45 a.m. at the Sierra Summit Vista Area. At this location, porta-potties and light refreshments will be available for riders.
Following a brief break at the Finish line, riders can ride at their own pace on the loop from Sierra to Calaveras Road to their final destination of Ed Levin County Park Spring Valley Picnic Area, where we will have our lunch and awards ceremony at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Organizers have chosen Ed Levin County Park Spring Valley Picnic Area for the lunch and awards ceremony so that KOM riders can get a perfect view of the Amgen Tour of California professional cyclists as they ascend Calaveras Road on their Stage 3 route to Livermore.
For the seventh year in a row, the Amgen Tour of California is coming to San Jose as part of its tour schedule, and this year's Stage 3 Start will take place at the Berryessa Community Center (3050 Berryessa Road) at approximately 11:15 a.m. The KOM schedule has been arranged so that riders can finish the KOM ride with sufficient time to journey via the loop road to Calaveras and watch the pros.
The KOM entry fee for Open Riders (non-CEOs) is the same low price as last year - $50. For this low price, each rider will also receive a custom KOM short-sleeved race shirt and breakfast/snack/lunch refreshments.
A large portion of the funds raised during the KOM event will be donated to charity -- Santa Clara County Office of Education's Fit For Learning, an anti-obesity program serving students in grades K-8.
