City of San Jose 2009 Trail Count

September 8, 2009 - 1:03pm -- colin

On September 23, the City of San Jose and its partners and volunteers will conduct its third annual count and survey of trail users. Trail Count is an annual event that documents the usage of a selected number of San Jose’s trails for recreation and commuting.

Trail Count is accomplished with the help of our volunteer community partners, the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, Friends of the Guadalupe River Park & Gardens, VTA, and the support of many individual volunteers. Data obtained from the event helps the City’s trail planners seek grant funding, build community awareness, and demonstrate that off-street trails are important elements in a well developed transportation system. Trail Count 2008 data was a major determining factor in the City’s Trail Program receiving over $1,377,000 in grant awards in the past twelve months.

Volunteers are needed. To learn more about Trail Count, or to sign up to volunteer, please visit http://www.sjparks.org/Trails/Trail_Count2009.htm
