I'm going to be heading from the East Bay to Santa Cruz in a couple of weeks and will need my bike when I get there. Does anybody know the details regarding bikes on the HWY 17 Express bus? Are they allowed? Do they need to be boxed? Is it crowded? Anything I haven't thought of? This will be on a Sunday so that may mean an increse of recreational cyclists trying to do this. Any info I can get will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Most—but not all—Express
Most—but not all—Express buses have a rack that can hold three bicycles on the outside, and then if there is enough room they will normally let a couple of bikes on board.
If you are expecting a crowd then you will want to get there early, as it is first come first serve. No boxing required.
I have never been on there when a cyclist was turned away, but I only rode it once in a while, not with any frequency. Maybe someone else knows about how crowded it gets. ^_^
