In love

September 9, 2008 - 10:55am -- corinne

Well, it's official. I'm completely in love with my new bicycle. She's a woman specific Trek Madone. I just returned from a ride up to Grant's Ranch (on the way to Mt. Hamilton) and... what can I say? Wow. Now I have no more need for men, or their bicycles. Ladies, I highly suggest you look into getting a woman specific bike fitted to you if you put in any higher number of miles. It feels completely different.

At first I thought the carbon Madone was simply beyond excessive, but heh, I spend pretty much my entire life focused on bicycling when I'm not even riding a bike, so I finally came to conclude that I should probably really, really enjoy it when I am actually riding.

As a side note, they recently repaved a big chunk of the Mt. Hamilton road (the section climbing out of the San Jose valley) and it's really nice to ride on these foggy mornings.

I completely understand your feelings for your bike. It seems like forever, at least in miles, since I bought my first road bike. Coming from a long mountain biking tradition, it first felt kind of awkward, but the first 75 mile bike ride (two days after buying the bike) convinced me that I made a right decision. Conveniently enough the ride was called IDidaRide.

Several years later, investing money to put Ultegra SL compact crank on it felt like a nobrainer. But it turns out that the best motivation to bike is to have a good bike. That is why I always say to people to get something nice for their bike once a year. That could be new jersey, new wheelset, new saddle, or new bike. It can be cheap or expensive. But this thing will motivate you to keep riding.

And there is nothing better than being on an empty road in the morning with a slight fog covering the surrounding area and all you hear are the birds and the air whooshing past your ears.

Enjoy your new bike!!
