Cupertino Report

August 29, 2008 - 3:59am -- anneng

The towers for Cupertino's Mary Avenue Bicycle Footbridge over 280 are very conspicuously in place on both sides of 280 just west of the 85 interchange. Time lapse photos of their raisings on consecutive Friday nights, July 25 and August 1, can be viewed at http://www.cupertino.org. Click on "Mary Ave. Bicycle Footbridge Webcam". A cable stayed bridge will be constructed between the towers in the coming months.

A bike traffic skills class for Cupertino middle schoolers (ages 10-14) and their parents will be offered September 18 and 20 by the Cupertino Library and Cupertino's Bicycle Pedestrian Commission (BPC). The Thursday evening classroom session will be followed by a Saturday afternoon bike skills practice and ride around Cupertino neighborhoods. Experienced League of American Bicyclists Certified Instructors Rich Swent and BPC member Jim Wiant will lead the class. Rich has taught many similar classes in Palo Alto. For more information, check with Elizabeth Rein (erein@library.sccgov.org) at the Cupertino Library.
