Due to the rainy weather, we have rescheduled the youth bike rodeo at Anne Darling Elementary in San Jose to Wednesday, October 12. This means you will have a second opportunity to volunteer if you are interested in helping teach bicycle safety.
The bike rodeo is part of our month-long bike and walk to school program in which students will walk and ride their bikes to school as a group forming walking school buses and bike trains. Fourth and Fifth grade students will also keep walking and biking journals in which they will track the miles they've traveled, and will also calculate the pounds of carbon dioxide they helped keep out of the atmosphere by selecting an active mode of transportation.
The rodeo will consist of 4 courses that will teach children proper bicycling techniques on how to make right turns, left turns, exit out of a driveway, scan and look over their shoulder, as well as proper helmet use. Previous rodeo experience is not required. Detailed instructions will be provided.
