Streets Alive! San Mateo County goes car-free

March 24, 2010 - 9:54am -- colin

On Sunday, April 11th, cities across San Mateo County will host Streets Alive, transforming public streets into car-free outdoor spaces for people to walk, bike, run, roll, play, and enjoy being active and healthy. The Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition is proud to be one of the organizations making this event possible.

From 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, cities across the county will close streets to auto traffic and highlight public places such as parks, plazas and trails as a way to promote healthy outdoor activity for a healthy future. People of all ages and physical abilities will have the opportunity to be active, rediscover their neighborhoods, visit other communities, and experience the freedom of safe, car-free spaces. Get set to grab your bike and hit the car-free streets!

If the thought of a car-free day in San Mateo County has you itching to help out, your involvement is welcomed and encouraged. There are several ways to get involved as a volunteer, marshal, word-spreader, or sponsor. Check out the Streets Alive website at http://www.streetsalivesmc.org for all the details and opportunities.

Sunday, April 11 - 10:00AM to 2:00PM

Of the nine communities participating as of now, only Redwood City and Brisbane are actually closing any streets to motor vehicles. Better luck next year!
