East-West South Bay bike route along High Speed Rail

February 9, 2010 - 4:52pm -- Isaac

I moved to Sunnyvale last April. I haven’t had a car since last November and I have been using my bicycle as my primary mode of transportation. The bike lanes around Sunnyvale are very good, but commuting beyond Sunnyvale is very difficult. In order to increase the commuting distance by bike for all citizens in Sunnyvale, I propose to add a bike lane next to the new High Speed Rail tracks, which will save money, increase health and increase safety for all Sunnyvale residents. Yoriko Kishimoto is running for Assembly Member of the Mountain View district and is a supporter of this idea also. If all the districts along the High Speed Rail line allow a continuous bike lane to run beside the High Speed Rail, we can have a dedicated east to west bike path in the South Bay that will not interfere with traffic. This plan will help eliminate the difficulties that many Sunnyvale residents who live without a car endure every day. The benefits include: reduced traffic, reduced pollution, connection to all South Bay bike trails, increased bicycle commuter distance per day, a more enjoyable bicycle ride, easy access to public transportation and you don’t have to be fit like Lance Armstrong to participate! If there is any information on how I can help the residents of Sunnyvale at the local level please let me know. This link shows a great two-way separated bike lane that we can use!
