Dan Zack, Downtown Development Coordinator, Redwood City
The Mountain View Coalition for Sustainable Planning (MVCSP) is excited to host local planner Dan Zack, renowned for the incredible success of Redwood City's Downtown revitalization and innovative parking system, to deliver his presentation, Delightful Density: Strategies for Comfort, Convenience and Choice in the Cities of the New Reality.
Cities often limit densities to preserve a community's small town feel, but overdoing it can create a slew of other problems including housing shortages, car dependence, and suburban sprawl. Higher densities can help cities reach their environmental, social, and economic goals while providing wonderful benefits for residents. The challenge is locating, arranging, and designing it to make it delightful! Come participate in this fun, interactive presentation and learn about the rewards of density done right.
About the Mountain View Coalition for Sustainable Planning
The MVCSP is a diverse local group formed in 2009 for the purpose of exploring how to make Mountain View the best city it can be through the use of progressive land use planning techniques. Our members include Mountain View residents, employees and business owners. Through community education and direct advocacy work MVCSP works to promote:
* Environmentally conscious decision making.
* The creation of a wide variety of types of homes that people of all incomes can afford.
* A more balanced ratio of homes to jobs within Mountain View.
* A thriving local economy that fosters shopping locally.
* The creation of lively, distinct and interconnected neighborhoods.
* The creation of a comprehensive network of pedestrian, cycling and public transportation amenities.
