UCLA Professor Donald Shoup to speak in San Jose - this Wednesday, February 24th at San Jose City Hall

February 4, 2010 - 12:26pm -- Carlos

ShoupFor those of us fortunate to live in the Silicon Valley we have ample access to hills, trails, and beaches. One thing that we also seem to have in abundance is free parking. Join UCLA Professor Donald Shoup, the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition and Greenbelt Alliance in San Jose for his talk about his book, "The High Cost of Free Parking", on Wednesday, February 24th at San Jose City Hall. (Download flyer for more details - pdf)

Come join us for an evening of honest discussion about the trade offs that communities make when they supply an abundance of free parking. As public transit fares soar, parking is free and abundant. As cyclists, what does this increase in traffic and congestion mean to you? Should we increase train and bus fares --forcing people back into their cars -- while providing for free and ample parking?

Limited bike parking is provided just outside the venue. Additional parking provided in the city garage just south of the building.
