Donald Shoup, author of The High Cost of Free Parking, comes to San Jose

The Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, Greenbelt Alliance, and the Mineta Transportation Institute are pleased to welcome Donald Shoup to San Jose. Donald Shoup, Professor of Urban Planning at UCLA is author of the influential book, The High Cost of Free Parking, and was instrumental in California's adoption of the parking "cash-out" law. Professor Shoup will speak about about his book, answer questions and sign books. Download flyer (pdf).

San Jose is in the midst of updating its General Plan as well as planning for a walkable, compact neighborhood around Diridon Station. One issue that leads to much debate is parking, making this one of the most challenging land-use decisions in Silicon Valley.
