I have a mountain bike and I need to go from Oakland/Brokaw to Lawrence/Kiefer.
My plan is to take Brokaw all the way then somehow go around the airport and take Central. Is that possible? It seems like there is some dirt trail that will connect from airport parkway to evert road, which then lead me to Central?
When I am on Brokaw, do I ride on the sidewalk? I see lots of people do it.
Do you guys think this route is better than taking Montague->Trimble to central? Or Brokaw->first street->trimble->central?
Is this route relatively safe for a new biker?
Thanks.

I don't recommend crossing
I don't recommend crossing the 101 interchange on DeLaCruz, which Trimble would feed you onto.
You can take Brokaw; it has bike lanes except where it passes under 880; it doesn't seem bad to me westbound; it's more challenging eastbound.
Take Brokaw, which becomes Airport Parkway. Just after you pass under HW 87, you can turn right onto dirt (which may be paved later this year).
After about 0.6 miles, stay right, don't take the underpass. Either make a left onto the Airport Island Bridge, or a left onto the far sidewalk, then turn right onto the next road, or onto the dirt on the far side to continue north. See the bridge in this picture:

Stay to the right, go past what look like tollbooths, and you'll be on Ewert road. You'll parallel 101, then the 101 on-ramp. Look for a gap in the fence on your right. Push the walk button. Do not try to cross on red; high speed traffic and blind curve. When you get the light, ride about 1/4 of the way across the street, and turn your bike so you are in the right-most left-turn lane. When you get the green, make the left onto Central.
Coming back, you should be able to cross De La Cruz from Central easier. Then you can make the left onto the Airport Island Bridge, and a right onto the dirt. At the end of the dirt, you either have an unprotected left to make, or you could take the trail under Airport Parkway (right turn, right turn, hairpin right turn to go under, hairpin right turn, right turn).
