Get ready for Valley Rapid

November 28, 2011 - 12:47pm -- colin

Santa Clara County residents, get ready for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)! This modern form of public transit is coming soon to the Alum Rock/Santa Clara/El Camino Real Corridor, and could change the way the corridor looks and functions.

You can learn all about BRT in Santa Clara County in this beautiful video:

You can learn more about Valley Rapid at www.valleyrapid.org.

Of particular interest to SVBC is the prospect of bike lanes being added to compliment the dedicated bus lanes. That proposal, however, will need approval by each city along the way (San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Los Altos, and Palo Alto). If that sounds like a good idea to you, contact your City Council and let them know that you want the El Camino Corridor to live up to its potential as a route designed for all users of the road!

still can't understand why the svbc is behind this.

we need to allow bicycles to ride these routes. we already have tons of gargantuan buses and zillions of cars zipping up and down our roads -- how about we allow bikes now? is it really that controversial for a bicycle advocacy organization to advocate for...bicycles?

Hi Peter,
I'm not sure I understand your question. In the post, I'm urging people to contact their council members to advocate for bike lanes being installed along with dedicated bus lanes. VTA is offering to pay for it, but some of the cities along the corridor aren't going for it, currently. Personally, I'd also rather deal with one bus, in its own lane, than with 30 cars while I'm on my bike.
