Less than 2 weeks after new No Stopping/Parking signs were unveiled on Woodside Road (Hwy 84) west of the Canada Road intersection in Woodside, local merchants petitioned the town to allow lunchtime parking in the bike/shoulder lanes west of the Canada Corners plaza and Robert’s grocery. On November 16, the Town Council considered a draft resolution to request Caltrans to provide an exception to the No Stopping/Parking zone from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., seven days a week.
Two resident cyclists spoke against the draft, arguing that it put pedestrians and cyclists at risk, and asked that no action be taken on the resolution. Thanks to the quick action of SVBC members, the Council agreed to defer action on the resolution in order to allow deeper analysis and broader discussion of the parking issue. However, to mollify merchants during the busy holiday season, the Council decided to allow a lunchtime exception to No Stopping/Parking on the
north side of Woodside Road for about 150 feet west of the Canada Corners shopping center between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.
Interests of commerce will trump the safety of pedestrians and cyclists for the holiday season.

This is a violation of the CA Vehicle Code.
CA VC Section 21211: "(a) No person may stop, stand, sit, or loiter upon any class I bikeway, as defined in subdivision (a) of Section 890.4 of the Streets and Highways Code, or any other public or private bicycle path or trail, if the sto...pping, standing, sitting, or loitering impedes or blocks the normal and reasonable movement of any bicyclist."
(b) No person may place or park any bicycle, vehicle, or any other object upon any bikeway or bicycle path or trail, as specified in subdivision (a), which impedes or blocks the normal and reasonable movement of any bicyclist unless the placement or parking is necessary for safe operation or is otherwise in compliance with the law.
CA VC Section 21206: "This chapter does not prevent local authorities, by ordinance, from regulating the registration of bicycles and the parking and operation of bicycles on pedestrian or bicycle facilities, provided such regulation is not in conflict with the provisions of this code."

Bike lanes are Class II, not
Bike lanes are Class II, not Class I. Oddly enough, bike lanes are not automatically no-parking zones unless "No Parking" signs have been posted.
