http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=1771+E+capitol+expressw... suggestion is to head west to Coyote Creek Trail to the HW 87 bike path to the guadalupe, around the airport to central. I'm not sure about Balfour as shown in this map. Also, Coyote Creek Trail is closed after dark near the golf course.

I mostly take the route suggested by Google maps previously posted with some changes. my route is: Coyote Creek trail (starting near Silver Creek Valley Road) up to Tully Rd which is the end of Coyote trail. Then bike lane on Tully Rd, which turns into Curtner, for 2 miles to Guadalupe Trail near HWY 87. Then Guadalupe trail through downtown, past the airport, under HWY101, and get off the trail shortly after crossing under Montague. then a 1/2mile road ride to my work in northern part of Santa Clara. note: From 880 to when i get off the Guadalupe trail is ~4miles of gravel/dirt which is why I use a hybrid bike.
