To kick off the route information forum I wanted to make sure everyone knew about the North South Route. Put together by the Peninsula Committee, it is a comprehensive map showing route information for various cities up and down the Peninsula. There is a supplement for it as well, going over alternative routes in certain areas.

A Mountain View continuation
A Mountain View continuation would be a nice extension.
The route would extend from Bryant along Redwood Circle, then the bike route taking Carlson, Ely/Duncan, Parkside/Scripps, Ferne/ Briarwood, and crossing San Antonio, to join up with the Mountain View Bicycle Boulevard which begins at Nita and Whitney, all the way across to Montecito, and through to Shoreline. From there, cross Shoreline onto Stierlin, through to Central Street, across Moffett and to the Steven's Creek Trailhead. From there, either west to the El Camino Biped undercrossing, or east to the soon to open Moffett Biped overpass.
I've just posted this suggestion to the comments link.
Gotta promote my own city's Bicycle Boulevard, right?
Safe is key, as it would awesome to have bike lanes on El Camino all the way. That would make the trip way quicker, put us on equal standing as motor vehicles, and eliminate the need for these time consuming twisty turny routes at all.

The supplement mentions the dangers of Bayshore and 101. A much better route to downtown is left on Geneva from Bayshore, then right on Alemany to meet up with San Jose and Mission. Bike lanes or wide shoulders the whole way.

My "standard" (as in I have seen 100's of people on these roads) commuter route from this location is thus...
Take Tunnel instead of Bayshore. Left on Lagoon. Right on Serra Point. Right on Shoreline. Into the hotel Parking lots. At the back of the parking lot along the tracks cross the bridge and turn right into the next parking lots. Exit parking lot onto Veterans. Left on Oyster Point, right on Eccles. Right on Forbes. Becomes Harbor. At the end of Harbor, go into the Parking lot which has (I kid you not) a signed bike lane in it. Onto bike path, cross bridge. Follow Bike path onto Belle Aire (signed bike lane). Left on South Airport. Becomes McDonnell.
This gets you to Millbrae Ave much safer, but you are on the other side of the 101 and have to cross at some point to get to most points. If you have a ways to go, keep following Bayshore and Airport which are nice and have limited stops. You can then get on the Coyote Point Bike path.
