Centerline Rumble Strips Questionnaire
We want your opinion on Centerline Rumble Strips (CLRS).
Caltrans has recently instituted a program to install Centerline Rumble Strips (CLRS) on many state highways through rural areas in the Bay Area. In spite of the fact that many of these roads are heavily used by bicyclists, the impact of these rumble strips on cyclists has not been evaluated, and no data has been collected to determine if this treatment makes roads safer or less safe for bicycles.
At the present time, the following state highways have CLRS installed:
Highway 84, west of La Honda (84SM) (San Mateo County)
Highway 84, Niles Canyon Road (East Bay) (84AL) (Alameda County)
Highway 9, from Hakone Garden to Saratoga Gap
Highway 152, Hecker Pass Road
There are several other locations in the pipeline
If you have ridden a road with CLRS and would like to submit your comments, we invite you to do so by completing this brief questionnaire. We will analyze the data and submit it to Caltrans. This data will help us greatly in our discussions with Caltrans.
