At a recent community meeting hosted by Greenbelt Alliance and the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, residents came together to voice concerns about plans being proposed for the Diridon Station area. They shared the same misgivings as Scott Herhold noted in his column (Page B1, Aug. 29): —'Downtown' claim just a wet noodle."
Building Our Future, One Step at a Time

These are exciting times for residents of San Jose, but especially for the people who work, visit, and play in downtown and surrounding neighborhoods. As we all know, transportation improvements are coming to the Diridon Station area in the form of BART, High Speed Rail, the electrification of Caltrain, and expanded services for Amtrak, the ACE train, and the Capital Corridor.

Community speaks up about the Diridon Station Area Plan

Residents, cyclists, families, students and neighborhood leaders gathered on Monday, August 23 to speak about the plan for Diridon Station. With an upcoming September San José City Council vote, the group voiced their concerns on the existing three conceptual alternatives that were presented at a city sponsored meeting on August 7.
MTC announces $44 Million in grant funding to support livable communities

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) approved 22 new capital grants totaling $44 million through its Transportation for Livable Communities (TLC) program to finance pedestrian, bicycle and streetscape improvements near public transit in cities around the nine county San Francisco Bay Area.
Residents come out to help select a preferred plan for the Diridon Station Area

About 90 residents came to San Jose City Hall on August 7 to help decide how a future Diridon Station Area will look like. One of the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition's main areas of advocacy is helping to shape the future of this rail hub and its surrounding neighborhoods.
Could the Diridon Station Area be the new Copenhagen?

Recently Copenhagen hosted Velo-City 2010, an annual cycling conference which brings together cycling advocates from around the world. Planners, bike advocates, and transportation officials from North America had an opportunity to see what makes Copenhagen unique amongst cities in designing their city for people.
