Multi lane streets are streets that have more than one lane in a direction. They create problems for cyclists because of left turns. However there are other problems with sharing multi lanes streets:
One is that higher speeds are sustained on these streets- ten or more miles per hour higher. Any speed over 20 mph is a problem for the average cyclist and multi lanes streets can get as high 50 mph posted limit.
Reduced space in the right lane because lanes a shareable lane was reduced to make way for more lanes.
