New bicycle!

It has been too long. This one is much better than the Dahon, which in hindsight was much too small for me.

First impressions and run-ins with irrational motorists abound!

We want your submissions

Our calendar is looking kinda bare for this next month. Here is a friendly reminder that if you have information to share with the cycling community you can submit it directly to the site (by logging in) or by sending your info to submissions [at] bikesiliconvalley [dot] org.

Make sure that if you have an event you include the date, time and location. The more information you can provide the better. If you are writing about your city or area, make sure to include names of cities and streets. As always, links are useful for readers to follow and learn more about any given event or topic.

Spam and site weirdness

If you follow the general RSS feed you may have noticed some spam popping up. That is because the forums are included there, and that is the one place that posts are added to the site without a moderator looking at them first.

I just activated reCAPTCHA, which will hopefully curb the amount of spam accounts that get created. The CAPTCHA will only show up on the create accounts form, so if you are all ready logged in and have an account you shouldn't see it.

New biz cards

Well, I didn't have any to begin with, so there are no old cards to compare to. But you get two photos anyway!

Business cards are hard to take photos of!

Dancing with the Bikes

This video is a continuous stream of amazing. The cyclist is dancing, using her bike more as a partner than a tool. To the very end it is utterly fascinating. So, watch it.

E-mail discussion list

Related to the recent downtime of the website, the South Bay Cycling e-mail discussion list is currently unavailable.

It is being worked on, and I will puts updates here.

A holiday miracle!

Not really, but if you are reading this it means the website is back, and hopefully still running.

I wrecked!

I got in the first bike accident since I was... a teenager? It turns out that one should not fold their bike while they are still riding it. Go figure!

You can read all about it on my other blog, as well as get grossed out from photos of my skinned up knee!

I learned a valuable lesson tonight: single speed bikes don't go that fast! ^_^

Read all about it at: http://interi.org/2008/12/me-folding-bike/.

Gary Brustin and cycling law

Gary Brustin spoke last Thursday about Bicycling and the Law, and I have to say it was a really great talk. I personally learned a lot, and I took some notes to share with folks who couldn’t make it (make sure to come next time!).

The internet is commenting

I turned off the unregistered commenting. There seems to be a flurry of spam activity coming out of Russia, and our comment queue was filling up and making it difficult to find legit comments. So, for the moment it will be off.

If I hear that some folks really, really want to comment without registering an account on the site, then I will consider setting up something like reCAPTCHA.
