Join Team SVBC for Climate Ride California in Support of Bicycle Advocacy

Are you passionate about doing more to help combat climate change? Or maybe making our cities more sustainable, bike-friendly places to live? Or maybe you just want to ride through the epic coastal scenery of Northern California. To fulfill any or all of these desires, we have a great ride and an amazing adventure for you! Join Team SVBC for the Climate Ride California 2013. Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition first partnered in 2012 with Climate Ride, the premiere environmental event in the country, for the annual California Climate Ride. We raised over $7,000 to directly support our bicycle advocacy work. This May we are hitting the road again! You could be a part of Team SVBC this year: enjoying an amazing 5-day ride from Eureka to San Francisco, getting inspired by the advocacy work of your fellow riders, and knowing that you are really making a difference for biking and for climate change. We would love to have you join Team SVBC for this year's Climate Ride California starting May 19th, 2013 in Eureka. Each rider has to raise $2,400 for the charity of their choice, and Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition is an approved charity. When you select us as your beneficiary, a portion of every dollar you raise for the Climate Ride will go to support Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, which means our efforts will gain even more traction in the future. What are you waiting for? Register to join Team SVBC today! Can't ride this year, but want to support SVBC’s Team? Bob Roll rocked the house at SVBC’s Fifth Annual Dinner

If you were one of the over 270 guests that attended our Fifth Annual Dinner last week, then you know what fun we had. We would like to thank all our sponsors* who helped us make the dinner possible and the evening very special. In addition, we'd also like to thank the local businesses and industry partners for their generous donations of all the great product, vacations and services for our auctions. The evening would not have been such a belly buster, though, without the personal interview with Bob Roll. Bob shared tales of his experiences riding the Giro d'Italia and working as a commentator for the Tour de France. It was without a doubt the funniest interview we've ever had at an Annual Dinner. Even the staff at the club were laughing as Bob somehow made crashes, injuries, and a nearly-fatal case of hypothermia completely hilarious. Despite the welcome lightheartedness, there was a serious goal to the evening. As our Board Chair Shiloh Ballard put it at the beginning of the night, “This is a fundraiser. We are here to raise funds!” We were particularly interested in building the funding base for our Vision Zero: Silicon Valley initiative, which has a goal of zero deaths or major injuries for cyclists. We've had some big successes with that campaign lately, but we need to ensure its future and for that, we needed funding. Our guests really stepped up to the plate when posed with a challenge grant for the initiative. The challenge was lead by Bob Ward, whose wife was struck and killed two years ago by a truck...

Team SVBC thanks you for supporting California Climate Ride 2012

Wow! What an incredible ride and an inspiring group of people. I couldn’t have asked for anything more, and I did have my fingers crossed for no rain (success!). There were so many people with very different backgrounds, all with a common interest of making the planet a better place to live. It is no surprise then that many of the people who work in green energy, sustainability, and climate change policy are also cyclists. There was a certain feeling of enthusiasm being around a large group of like-minded people. I would especially like to thank our team members, Rose Madden, Gavin Powell, and Elizabeth Sippl, for their fundraising efforts and for joining me in a 320-mile ride to raise awareness about climate change by promoting bicycling as a healthy and green alternative. I would also like to give a special thanks to all our supporters for their contributions in helping us reach our fundraising goals. Thank you for all your generous support! Help me reach my Climate Ride goal

Next month, I will bike 320 miles from Fortuna to San Francisco as part of Climate Ride California 2012. The ride consists of hundreds of cyclists pedaling in a five-day ride to raise money for more than 30 green organizations that are working on sustainability, bike advocacy, the climate crisis, and clean energy solutions. In order for me to participate however, I must raise at least $2,400 in pledges, right now I am at 35% of my goal. Your donation will help support Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition to teach safe cycling skills, address insufficient infrastructure, and reach out to both motorists and cyclists in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties to become an even more inviting place for a bike ride. Please make a donation of $25, $50, $100 or more, and help support this very important cause. It's very easy… visit my fundraising page where you can make a tax-deductible donation online. Any size donation will help get me closer to my fundraising goal! If you would like to know more, please send me an email at jenb@bikesiliconvalley.org or check out the website at http://www.climateride.org/. Thank you all so much for your...
