Campbell - East Campbell Ave. facelift continues

February 17, 2011 - 9:12am -- Carlos

This Campbell Area Report was sent in by Laura Smith

The widening of E. Campbell Ave as it bridges over Los Gatos Creek (near the par course and Campbell Park). That particular stretch of road was a nightmare for cyclists. The road narrowed forcing the cyclist into the traffic lane. There was no bike lane or shoulder. (Unfortunately, the only other direct route east/west across the city of Campbell is Hamilton Ave. That is even more dangerous with all the traffic, merging lanes and Hwy 17 on/off ramps.)

This Santa Clara County Area Report was written by Paul Goldstein

Changes to the Santa Clara County Ordinance Division B5, Bicycles and Skateboards, as discussed with the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) some months ago are finally coming before the County Board of Supervisors for action on February 8. The changes are mostly a deletion of ordinance that is not practical and no longer desirable. The transmittal and proposed revisions will be viewable at the County website beginning February 1 at http://www.sccgov.org/portal/site/scc/bosagendalist.

Bill Bliss Sculpture

If you ride along the Bay Trail through the Palo Alto Baylands, you will notice a new and exciting piece of bicycle-themed art along the trail. The stainless steel sculpture, by local artist James Moore, is a tribute to Bill Bliss, who dedicated his life to improving the safety of bicycle corridors and trails in the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout California. He was tragically killed when hit by a motor vehicle in 2005 while on a bicycle trip across the country.

Los Altos delays decision on BPAC status

January 13, 2011 - 10:52am -- Carlos

City SealThe Los Altos City Council last night voted to delay any action on the future of the BPAC. This comes at a unique time in the city's transportation future. Since the city's footprint consists of predominately single-story, single-family residences on large lots surrounded by interstates, expressways, state highways, boulevards and arterials, auto congestion is becoming the norm rather than the exception.

Lunchtime parking usurps Woodside bike lane for holidays

November 23, 2010 - 9:23am -- colin

Less than 2 weeks after new No Stopping/Parking signs were unveiled on Woodside Road (Hwy 84) west of the Canada Road intersection in Woodside, local merchants petitioned the town to allow lunchtime parking in the bike/shoulder lanes west of the Canada Corners plaza and Robert’s grocery. On November 16, the Town Council considered a draft resolution to request Caltrans to provide an exception to the No Stopping/Parking zone from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., seven days a week.
