Campbell: January B/PAC update

February 1, 2012 - 9:13pm -- colin

Thanks to Laura Smith for submitting this report from the Campbell B/PAC!

The Winchester Boulevard Improvements project (Phase 1) is 30-40% finished. This project includes changes along Winchester Boulevard near the Campbell Community Center. The median work is complete except for the landscaping. The underground work took longer than planned because of difficulties getting the lighting right. Crosswalks at Winchester Boulevard and Campbell Avenue will have bulb-outs. These will shorten the walking distance from corner to corner, allow more standing room while waiting for the light to change and be decorated with stamped concrete. The project should be completed by April of this year.

Sunnyvale: Support anti-harrassment legislation to protect cyclists

January 25, 2012 - 4:39pm -- colin

This update and call to action comes from Kevin Jackson.

You may have heard about the cyclist anti-harassment ordinance that Los Angeles adopted over the summer. This provides cyclists with an important measure of protection against aggressive motorist behavior by allowing them to sue the offender in civil court in the all-too-common situation that police are unable to enforce the criminal laws.

The Google Streetview tricycle has been roaming the city's trail network, capturing on-the-ground images for you to enjoy from the comfort of your laptop. Just zoom in on a trail section and drag the little yellow man onto the spot you want to check out. Neat! See a sample below:

November 17, 2011 - 12:29pm -- colin

Here's the latest in San José trail developments from Trail Manager Yves Zsutty:

Lower Guadalupe River Trail

City staff is working with Caltrans to release the remaining federal funds to construct the 6.4 mile trail system from Highway 880 to Gold Street in Alviso. Construction will likely commence in May or June of 2012 and require a 12 month closure of the existing gravel trail. Staff is developing an Outreach Strategy with the intent of providing the most current project updates, schedule and other information as work proceeds. We intend to work with local media, the SVBC and others to keep Coalition members and the community up to date.

The final North Fair Oaks Environmental Impact Report (EIR) will be published on Friday. The EIR will include a "change list" of items that have been incorporated and the public comments.

There were five written comments in favor of keeping the bike/pedestrian rail crossings, which contributed to the Planning Commission keeping them in the Plan. THANK YOU to everyone who sent comments.
