San José: Excellence in Transportation Planning webinar features award-winning trails program

April 14, 2011 - 1:10pm -- colin

The second in a series of three webinars on Excellence in Transportation Planning will take place on Wednesday May 11, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time. This webinar will feature winning projects from the 2010 Transportation Planning Excellence Awards (TPEA), a program which is jointly funded by the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Surface Transportation Environment and Planning Cooperative Research Program (STEP) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) with support from the American Planning Association. San Jose’s Trail Program received a Transportation Planning Excellence Award last year from the Federal Highway Administration. Acknowledgment of pedestrian and bicycle travel from a highway organization shows that the view of “transportation” is shifting to include biking and walking.

The topics to be discussed during this webinar are Livability/Sustainability and Transportation and Land Use Integration.

Speakers include representatives from FHWA; FTA; The City of Salem, Oregon; The City of San José, California; The New York City Department of Transportation, and The Capital District Transportation Committee, Albany, New York.

The third webinar in this series will feature additional 2010 TPEA winning projects. Topics will be Modeling and Technology Applications, Transportation Planning and Environment, Planning Leadership and Tribal Transportation Planning. This final webinar is expected to take place during the summer of 2011.

Registration is now open. To reserve your seat, please visit: http://www.nhi.fhwa.dot.gov/resources/webconference/web_conf_learner_reg...
