Silicon Valley Bike Summit 2020 - Call for Posters

You are invited to submit an abstract for poster presentation for the 10th Annual Silicon Valley Bike Summit to be held virtually on August 6 and 7, 2020. We welcome posters with ideas to make our cities safer for walking and biking. For consideration, abstracts must be submitted no later than Monday, June 22, 5:00pm PDT. Notifications of acceptance will be sent on July 1, 2020.

About the Summit

The Bike Summit documents key issues related to bicycling in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. Attendees are citizen activists, city and county staff, elected officials, business representatives, consultants, non-profit workers, Bike and Pedestrian Advisory Committee members, academics, and others working in transportation. Last year we SOLD OUT with 250 attendees. Given the current conditions due to Covid-19, the Summit this year would be held online. 

Poster Content:

The theme for 2020 posters is “Making streets safer for people walking and biking.” Suggested topics include, but are not limited to: 

  • Impacts to transportation and biking due to shelter in place/covid-19

  • Bike safety, education & policies

  • Innovative bike infrastructure

  • New mobility

  • Advocacy

  • Behavior change/ Mode shift (to/from driving to biking, transit, or shared rides such as Uber/Lyft)

  • The intersection of housing, transportation, equity, and sustainability

  • Public-private partnerships

Posters should be visually compelling with text and images. Posters should include:

  • A clear and concise title

  • Information about the author(s), including name(s), affiliation(s), etc.

  • Project goals/objectives

  • Research methodology

  • Results/findings

  • Recommendations for further study

The Bike Summit brings together a multidisciplinary group, each with various levels of topic expertise. As such, please be sure to present material in a manner that can be understood by any participant. We strongly encourage the use of tables, photographs, diagrams, charts, and other graphics to help convey important information. Guidelines for poster format and size will be shared with selected poster presenters on July 1, 2020

Poster Judging Criteria:

There will be a poster contest and three winners will be selected. Criteria for selecting winners include the:Scoring Criteria

  • ORIGINALITY: How original is the concept presented? Or, how original is the new approach to an old problem? 

  • PRESENTATION: Does the proposal present a clear and concise understanding of the problem and project objectives? Is the research question clearly stated? 

  • METHODS: If applicable, is the approach to data collection and data analysis clearly explained? Does the proposed methodology address the ability to collect and analyze the data according to sound methodological practices?

  • VISUAL IMPACT: How effective is this poster visually? How valuable is each figure and graph in furthering viewers' understanding of the research subject?
