The Streets Alive! Parks Alive! event in Belmont was a wonderful success, engaging over 150 participants. At Barrett Community Center, we filled the blacktop and grass with bike-centric fun. Upon entering, participants were welcome to get their bikes checked out by two well versed bicycle mechanics. After ensuring their bikes were ready to ride, kids had the chance to complete a safety skills rodeos, covering important skills like hand turn signals. The bike courses didn't end there - on the grass we set up on off-road skills course with obstacles and ramps to really hone those bicycle-handling abilities.
The entertainment continued on the blacktop with a stationary bike race to see how fast riders could go in 15 seconds. Kids also got to use the bike as a tool for art creation. Using pedal power, participants made brightly colored spin art. All our participants had a great time at the various stations, leaving content and excited to get back on their bikes.
This event was made possible with Belmont Parks and Rec, 4H, Belmont Redwood Shores School District, and our amazing volunteers.
