Campbell BPAC July update

Thanks to Laura Smith of the Campbell Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) for this update.

Campbell Avenue Portals Project Design Phase: This is a project to put portals under Hwy 17 where it crosses over Campbell Avenue. This will make is easier and safer to walk or bike along this stretch of Campbell Avenue. Two public meetings have already been held and the project was well received by those who attended. Biggs-Cardosa Associates, a structural engineering consulting firm, was awarded the design contract. The 30% submittal, a preliminary design, is expected in September. In the meantime, the City Council has a study session scheduled for early August and funding for the project will be discussed.

Winchester Boulevard Improvements (Phase 1): The project will be completed next week. The decorative streetlight poles from Campbell Avenue to Budd Avenue have been installed and the relocation of the cobrahead streetlight poles is complete. The decorative crosswalks at the Winchester Boulvard/Campbell Avenue intersection turned out amazingly well. Check them out next time you're in that area.

Hacienda Avenue Improvement Project: This project includes Hacienda Avenue from Winchester Boulevard to San Tomas Aquino Road. The City hired a surveying
consultant who prepared the base map. Currently, the project is in design phase
and there will be public meetings. A study session with the City Council follows next. Construction is planned to start in the summer of 2014. Bike lanes are definitely included.

Oktoberfest: Mark your calendars! Oktoberfest is schedued for October
13-14th. See you there!
