Getting rolling at the new job

As the newest member of the SVBC team, my first few days were spent getting to know the office, finding my way around Santa Clara, and learning how to use a PC. Now that I’ve got that out of the way, I’ve been getting down to business on the Safe Routes to School curriculum.

It’s been exciting to look around at the other counties and states doing different Safe Routes programs, and see what everyone else has been doing that seems to work well. I got inspiration from programs in Michigan, Iowa, and Oregon, as well as other cities and counties in California, while also brainstorming entirely new activities that will get kids excited about biking AND being safe.

So far I’ve enjoyed having the opportunity to create a program from scratch that I think will really have an impact on students in the City of Santa Clara, and I can’t wait to start taking it to the schools!

As a member of the Peninsula (San Mateo County) Committee, I'm anxious to apply what you and Staff develop in Santa Clara County. Keep us posted on events where we can learn about your programs and duplicate or adapt them.
